Making a home, classic or contemporary design

Making a home, Classic or Contemporary design.

One of my roles in life has been as an antiques dealer. My family have been antique dealers for three generations. My brother still deals and exhibits across America, currently exhibiting at the San Francisco Antiques Show. As I used to say when people asked what I dealt in, "Anything that breaks, ceramics, pottery, terracotta, delft for example, as well as garden ornaments"

I helped many wealthy people find the perfect piece for their homes, either as parts of collections or simply as a decorative item.

When a client buys a house today they take that house and make it a home. Some just simply move all their Pottery Barn or similar store stuff in, others will use an interior designer to help them and I have a good friend locally Deb Bettcher who does an amazing job helping clients use the space they have and make it livable and chic and desirable. Others may have heirlooms or antiques to use around the home.

Of course, not everyone buys art and antiques and many may believe that you can not mix classic  with contemporary  but I came across this video from Christie's, who we represent in the Philadelphia area as their Real Estate Specialists, that I thought explains how you can do exactly that. Some classic designs, like Chinese Tang Horses will work beautifully with a contemporary or vintage table just as they would with a Chippendale piece. Watch the video and see if you agree.

What do you think? Would you mix contemporary and classic designs. Maybe in the comments you can share a photo of how you decorate your home.

If in the meantime you are looking for a Main Line Home or a farm nearby suitable for your collection contemporary or otherwise give me a call I would love to help you find a house you can make into a home.
