Berwyn Backyard beauties - Pileated Woodpeckers

Having coffee this morning and saw these two colorful Pileated Woodpeckers pecking at our stumps. They were big about 17 inches long. Garden is full of birds, bird song and the flowers and shrubs are bursting with life.

Nick & Trudy - Yesterday, when it reached 70, we had red headed woodpeckers hammering away at a dead branch way up in our 50' Norwegian Maple Tree. They are beautifully marked and serve a fabulous purpose eating those pesky insects.

Yes, these two were hammering away, must have been some good food in that stump.
