Wine down Wednesday

This past week I tried a couple of new wines for Wine Down Wednesday.

viansa white This first wine is a Sonoma  County white wine from Cucina Viansa not sure if a friend brought this over or if I had bought it a little while ago. As a every day wine to drink as an aperitif it was fine, but earth shattering it was not. We discussed last week how a wine can weigh on your tongue and this was very light, had some fruit flavours but nothing deep or dramatic that left a real memory or would cause me to go out and get another bottle. But if you were looking for something as an alternative to a pinot grigio this might be something you could try.

The other wine was brought by a friend this weekend we had over. We were eating jambalayy, which was delicious and he brought this really nice Malbec with him. We had started with a Bolla Chianti and that went well before and with the meal, but when we opened this it was a whole different story.

caliterra malbec

Apologies for the qulaity of the photo, snapped on my phone this morning, but the winery website has photos of their bottle art and other information. This is a product of Chile and was a great wine, great flavor, great weight on the tongue, lots of nice fruit but dry at the same time. A really nice wine I would definitely go out and buy again.

So what are you drinking, anything different to your normal tastings. Hopefully as the weather improves I am hoping to get out and try some more of our local wineries and report back.

Thanks for the review!  My wife and I are wine newbies, and not what I would call refined in our tastes.  We did attend a wine and chocolate pairing at Chaddsford (FUN!) and like to try flights at Il Bar in Ristorante Panorama (Front and MArket in Philly) they have 150+ winesby the glass.  Keep the opinions coming, we are always looking for good insights and help selecting wines!
