Main Line Stations - Devon

The Main Line is famous for its railway line, what gave the region its name, man y of the old stations have been restored or are in need of restoration. Devon used to be an important stop, now only the Septa trains stop here, but in the past the was a big hotel, The Devon Hotel and Polo Grounds located just across the road where Waterloo Gardens and The Horse Show Grounds stand today roughly. Many Philadelphians came to take the country air and get away from the heat of the city. Whilst it is probably cooler than the city today with the heat wave it does not feel as if it would have done them any good.

The station is crying out for restoration in my opinion, there is plenty of parking and it is a well used station, maybe a cofee shop/cafe in the station building, hopefully not another Dunkin Donuts but something with some character picking up on the architecture of the building. Having visited Franklin Fountain in Philadelphia on Monday something like that would be fun out here and would be so appropriate. Enjoy the photos, I don't think things have changed that much, I can just see the locomotive stopping, wheezing to a halt to let the passengers alight for their visit to the country.

The wires would not have been present when this was built

The trains are now electric and don't struggle with the grade along the line.

Most Septa trains head out to Downingtown on the westbound tracks.

It's a grand building, shame it is all closed up.
