As you know if you read my regular columns about wine. I like Portuguese Rose wines and have written before about Mateus. In one of those posts I mentioned Lancers Rose and how I had drunk it in the past and found it a little sweet. But to be honest I had not drunk it in a long time, so could not resist when I was last at the wine store to pick up a bottle and compare it to Mateus rose.
This last weekend was perfect Rose wine weather, hot and humid. We certainly enjoyed the glasses we had of these delicious wines, however I was very surprised to discover the lancers was actually a little dryer than the Mateus Rose. Both are far from "sweet" rather I would describe them as fruity and refreshing, the Mateus Rose was also a little darker in color than the Lancers. Price is pretty much the same for each, so I would say from here on out I don't mind picking up a bottle of either for a party if you want to bring something different to the usual pinot grigio or cabernet/merlot.
Another summer favourite is Sangria, and I am thinking of exploring this next time. By the way, Sangria is not a wine type but a drink/cocktail made with wine. It can be red or white, although red is more common. But more next time.
