Friday morning excursion

We decided to take a quick morning excursion to Chanticleer Gardens in Radnor. It is a short drive from our home in Tredyffrin Township and always a delight to enjoy. These gardens are very natural, acorns sit in the beds, flowers droop as they age, it is not like Longwood where everything is pristine all the time, this is a real garden like ours.

Every time we go we feel inspired and encouraged. We get ideas and feel we can do this or that we have seen.

Here is a view of the main house from the bottom of the garden...

Chanticleer view

This is a great idea, using large stone to create a settee and chairs, more comfortable than you would think. But you will need some serious help to build these.

Stone settee

There are ideas all around for shade gardens, rock gardens, follies, vegetable plots, sunny areas, water gardens, meadows, woodland, you name it they have an example. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did after all the humidity it was a delight to wander round in the cool.

Sometimes you just want to get away and enjoy a few minutes of peace and calm, my phone doesn't work in the gardens so I can be in the moment and enjoy the time wandering around.

We have lots of gardens and places to enjoy nature around us in Tredyffrin Easttown. If you need some suggestions, or have some of your own let us know we would love to hear from you in the comments below.

I like to wander around in gardens. Yes Longwood is pristine but it cost a LOT to keep it that way. Love the photos,

Patricia Feager this is my favorite local garden, it is very relaxing, during the summer Friday evenings you can bring a picnic and a bottle of wine if you drink. It is always very busy.

Shahar Hillel it is a great place to relax the mind.

I expected a lot of flowers when I read this was about gardens but, gosh, what a surprise seeing the stone seating - I love that, Nick! I see what you mean that it would take some serious help to achieve this but, how cool woud that be to have in your back garden? You could paint the stone each year for a 'new' look too!
