Winter definitely feels as if it has arrived, with cold temperatures and snow on the ground. It makes you feel like staying indoors by a fire. But there are plenty of things you can do close to Tredyffrin Easttown to enjoy the season.
Typically there are all the decorations up in villages and towns along the Main Line as well as people's house decorations as well. But a quick trip into Philadelphia using SEPTA allows you to visit the Christmas Market set up around City Hall. Having just got back from Germany where we saw multiple Christmas Markets the Philadelphia Version is a good example and well worth a visit. Suburban Station is the closest stop. There are multiple booths with food, pretzels, nuts, wine, Christmas Decorations and gift ideas.
Whilst Trudy browsed the Christmas market I grabbed the chance to visit the Franklin Institute to see an exhibition on loan from China of the 2000 year old Terracotta Warriors. You do need to book a timed ticket to enter but Thursday evening last week I got there on the dot of 5.00 pm and had the place almost to myself. You can get so close to these figures it is amazing. I know a little about the history of these figure discovered almost 40 years ago and have always wanted to see them in situ. As I do not have plans right now to visit China, on my bucket list, I thought this was a great opportunity. The history behind the find and the examples shown are wonderful. Well worth a visit. We then grabbed the chance to have dinner with one of our sons and his wife who live in Philadelphia, we had not reserved and that was a mistake showing how busy the restaurants are in town.
Going in the other direction by car a quick visit to Winterthur, the home of the Dupont family gave us a chance to visit the house decorated for Christmas, The YuleTide Tour, again you need to purchase timed tickets and you get put into a group of ten so you can fit in elevators and see when visiting the various rooms. A chance to see the home in a different light, but it makes you realize this is a place well worth a visit at any time of year, the gardens are wonderful and I am sure in the Spring they are filled with color. Again I loved the tour and the antiques on show are amazing.
Whilst you are out this way, a visit to Longwood Gardens is also possible and they have their winter light show and seeing the gardens decorated for the holidays is interesting to view a different perspective than normal.
Where do you like to visit over the Holidays, the ballet to see Nutcracker, a pantomime maybe at People's Light Theatre in Malvern.
Remember, just because the holidays are here does not mean homes are not selling, so if you are thinking of listing your Tredyffrin Easttown home give us a call as we are seeing plenty of serious buyers out looking for homes to buy.
