Glen Onoko Falls Trail

There are plenty of beautiful place stro hike close to Tredyffrin Easttown, but if you are willing to drive a little further you can enjoy even more beautiful vistas and hikes. I drove up to Jim Thorpe area yesterday with a friend. The weather was just gorgeous, clear skies a cool temperatures wonderful weather for hiking. We arrived at Lehigh Gorge State Park and made our way to the head of the Glen Onoko Falls Trail. This is a steep and dangerous hike in places, and there are plenty of warning signs as you head out. Whilst not long it is taxing on your quads and a little bit of skill is needed to clamber up the elevation and over the rocks. A hiking pole is a good aid as are good hiking shoes.

We were greeted with snow and ice in parts and I thought this bit looked like a pterodactyl, what do you think?

The route is surrounded by Rhododendrons which by May and June will look gorgeous.

Glen Onoko Falls Trail

The views are wonderful, you make your way up past three waterfalls, and some cascades, this is the view from the top. After this we hiked over to an outlook not far away over the crest and the scenery as you look down on the Lehigh with the train tracks running alongside are fabulous. You can rent bikes or bring your own, take the train and bike back to Jim Thorpe, riding alongside the train track on one side and the river on the other. White water rafting and kayaking are also available past times and if times with a water release from the nearby dam can make for an exciting adventure.

Jim Thorpe

We ended up eating lunch in Jim Thorpe a traditional Pennsylvsania town with some good places to eat, we stopped into Antonio's a pizza salad and sandwich restaurant. We shared a Stromboli with house recipe which was excellent. A great end to a morning hiking, breathing in fresh air and enjoying wonderful scenery.

Nick,

Nice photos, and I am glad you had a wonderful time hiking.  We are hoping the rain holds off enough for us to go to the beach this afternoon...A

I'm not much of a hiker, but I bet this is a very popular trail for those more advanced. Great photos!

Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543  I am not a hiker but I am sure it was a great time. Pennsylvania is a beautiful place full of rivers and streams. Would not attempt some of these trails without being experienced

Ron and Alexandra Seigel the weather was perfect, a truly glorious day. Today, not so much.

Sharon Tara in the summer it is very busy, at this time of year not too bad.

Hannah Williams it was very beautiful, but it was a rugged trail and required some effort.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel When you get perfection like that you’re going to have to just roll with it and strike while the iron is hot on that one. You know?

Laura Cerrano this is not a long hike about 5miles and it seems a long way to go for such a short hike, but the elevation is steep and takes some effort, but itis well worth it when you get to the top.
